1. Start with the product, then the festive set
Etsy includes Merrymaxxing in its 2026 autumn/winter report. This guide applies the idea to a maximalist Christmas product photo rather than to a whole room.
Use one sharp, evenly lit photo of your product. Write down three details that must survive: for example, the jar's shape, its ivory glaze and its label placement. Decide whether the result is a concept or an image representing an item for sale. For the latter, keep a real product photo alongside it and check every visible claim.
Open image creation, attach the reference and choose a portrait ratio such as 4:5. The ratios offered depend on the selected model; choose a supported one. See the reference-image guide if you have separate product and style references.
2. Copy a complete Christmas product-photo prompt
Replace the bracketed description before generating. The reference is the product authority; seasonal props are background direction.
Create one portrait Christmas campaign image using my uploaded product photo.
Product: [ivory ceramic candle jar]. Preserve the reference shape, proportions, material, color and label position. Do not invent lettering or product features.
Build a Merrymaxxing-inspired set around it: cherry-red and magenta folded paper, two emerald ribbon curves and a few glossy baubles at the edges.
Keep one product clearly dominant, with its silhouette and front label unobstructed. Leave calm space above it for a headline to be added later.
Use a cream tabletop and soft light from the upper left. Keep reflections and contact shadows consistent.
No people, hands, price tags, discounts, extra products, logos or generated text. Do not add a flame unless it exists in the reference and is wanted.
Output one image, not a collage. Prioritize product fidelity over decoration.
3. Fix visual competition before adding more decoration
The cover demonstrates a pale product against a saturated set. The red paper is intentionally prominent; a smaller product or a longer label may need a quieter background. Compare the result with your original at full size, especially the rim, lid and label.
Use the current result as the edit target. Reduce the size and contrast of the paper fans behind the product. Remove any prop touching its silhouette.
Keep the product, label placement, camera position and light direction unchanged. Do not add text or new decorations.
Leave the upper quarter simpler for a headline. Return one revision.
If a model changes the product despite these constraints, return to the original reference. For exact pixels, keep the real product as a separate image layer and construct the background around it in the image editor. A prompt alone does not guarantee exact preservation.
4. Review the image as a buyer would
| Check | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Product identity | Correct shape, quantity, label and material; no invented accessory |
| Physical scene | One light direction, believable reflections and a grounded base |
| Phone crop | Product readable at thumbnail size; headline space survives cropping |
| Claims | No fabricated discount, certification or product performance |
Create a square variant only after approving the first image. Ask to recompose around the same product; do not simply stretch the portrait. Save both versions on an infinite canvas if you want to compare them.
5. Export, costs and common questions
Can I sell the fictional candle shown here? This is a visual exercise, not a listing for a real item. Use your own accurate product reference and label conceptual imagery when sharing it.
Can AI add the final slogan? It can try, but use editable text layers when spelling and later changes matter. The layered-poster guide explains that workflow.
Is generation free? AI generation and assistant work follow the site's Credits rules. Check the chosen model and estimate before submitting; repeated variants can incur further usage.
Download the approved image and retain your source. For an invitation in the same seasonal palette, continue with the Craftmas poster exercise.
